A couple months ago, we discussed some recent developments in the
Darlington Refurbishment project. At that time, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission was close to announcing its decision on an unprecedented 10- to 13-year extension of its license and approval to rebuild and extend the life of reactors. On December 29, it made its decision.
The license is valid from Jan. 1, 2016 through Nov. 30, 2025, and is the longest license ever granted to a Canadian nuclear power plant. As the Conference Board of Canada recently estimated, this project is expected to generate nearly $15 billion in economic benefit to the local economy.
This decision is great news as we kick-off 2016, and we would like to extend our congratulations to OPG and the team(s) supporting this project.
